The government of assam is going to celebrate the 400th birthday anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan on November 24 as Lachit Divas in a Grand way all over the state as well as at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Instructions for Celebration of 400th Birth Anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan (Lachit Divas 2022

Lachit Borphukan’s Birth Anniversary: Government of Assam is going to celebrate the the 400th Birth Anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan on 24 Nov.2022 in a befitting manner all over the state as well as at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. For this purpose, the  Higher Education Department under Government of Assam has issued instructions to all the State Universities and Government / Provincialised colleges of Assam.

These are–

All the Universities, Colleges and Technical Institutions of Assam are requeste d to organize an Essay Competition on Lachit Barphukan on 19th of Nov. 2022 in their institutions and distribute prize to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best writer.

Regarding sending of 200 students from various colleges of Assam to New Delhi to attend Lachit Divas, district administration will arrange transport in coordination wit ASTC where ever necessary.

A Team of 20 numbers of faculty members of various Universities and Colleges of Assam is formed to participate in the event, liaison the whole tour and guide the students during the event & tour.

Two numbers of students from 100 numbers of various Government /Provincialized Colleges and Universities across the state has been selected to attend the Lachit Divas at Vigyan Bhawan.

All the Universities, Colleges Technical Institutions and of Assam are requested to organize a Blood Donation Camp and other Social Service Programmes in their institutions to mark the celebration of Lachit Divas on 20th November, 2022.

All the Universities and Colleges and Technical Institutions of Assam are requested to hold Innovative Programmes among the student and faculty members and staff members in their respective institutions on 21st, 22nd and 23rd November, 2022.

Student, faculties and staff members of all the Universities and Colleges and Technical Institutions of Assam. They are requested to watch the live telecast of the event at Vigyan Bhawan on the 24th of November, 2022.

Nodal teacher to be nominat ed to upload essay templates in case students/faculty/employees are not able to upload by themselves.

In case students/faculties/Employees are from other languages, then they may be encourag ed to write in their own languages. 

10 Universities, Colleges and Technical institutions are requeste d to encourage the students. So they participate in Brand display to be organise d by district administration on 18/11/2022.

Who was Lachit Borphukan?

Lachit Borphukan was born in 1622, in the town of Choraideo, Assam, India. His father, Momai Tamuli Borbarua , was the commander of the Ahom army, and his mother, Nageshwari Aideo, was a princess of the royal family. Lachit was educated at home and in the royal court, and he became a skilled warrior and a talented leader. In 1644, he was appointed as the commander of the Ahom army, and he led the Ahom forces to victory against the invading Mughals. Lachit is considered to be one of the greatest heroes in Indian history, and his bravery and leadership continue to inspire people today.

About lachit Divas 2022

Lachit Divas is celebrated every year on 24th Nov.2022 to commemorate the heroic deeds of Lachit Barphukan, a great military general of the Ahom Kingdom. He is consider ed to be one of the most illustrious sons of Assam. Lachit Barphukan was responsible for leading the Ahom army to victory against the mighty Mughal forces, led by Mir Jumla, in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671. This was a turning point in the history of Assam as it put an end to the Mughal expansion in the region. Lachit Divas is thus a day to remember and honour the great patriot and warrior Lachit Barphukan, who sacrificed his life for the sake of his motherland.
